Easter Treats

This Easter weekend I went home for sugary Peeps and Fruit Loops and came away with Peeps (obvi), chocolate and yogurt covered nuts and raisins, dried fruit strips (thanks mom!), and an unexpected surprise of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.  We had grapefruit halves for breakfast from mom and dad's garden and they were just so delicious I went out in the afternoon to pick some to bring home.  The tree was overflowing with fruit - rich, sweet, golden spheres ready for the taking.  I started out with the intention of picking maybe 5, and ended up with well over 30 - and the tree was still hanging heavy with ripe fruit even as I finished.  I felt bad leaving more ripe grapefruits on the tree, but I'd already filled four heavy bags and had no idea what I was going to do with them.  I decided upon juicing and pulled out mom's old electric juicer.  It felt so good to slice through the still warm flesh and watch all the juice drain from the fruits.  I filled two large carafes with juice and decided to leave the rest of the fruit whole  It was such an invigorating and grounding experience to create something delicious out of one ingredient that was living on a tree moments earlier.  With my leftover grapefruits I plan on making delicious baked grapefruit: grapefruit + brown sugar + cinnamon + walnuts, bake at 375 for 15 minutes.  Yummy!

Healthy whole foods that sound so delicious to me right now:
